Abstract: This paper presents a detailed analysis, by means of a through investigation of archival and bibliographical material, of the Life, written by Giovanni Baglione, of the Milanese painter Francesco Parone, the sole source of information for the work of this painter. The findings of this study have made it possible to date the activity of Parone to a period which is decidedly later than previously thought, namely between 1625-1628 and 1634, as supported by the indication, almost to the year, of his date of birth. It has also been possible to learn that he enjoyed for some time the protection of the Milanese cardinal, Giulio Roma, in whose home he was a guest, that he may also have had professional dealings with Duke Francesco Gallio, and that one of his paintings was in the collection of cardinal Luigi Omodei. Furthermore, the date of his painting for the church of San Romualdo has been established, and the extent of his workmanship in the Maddaleni-Capodiferro chapel in Santa Maria Sopra Minerva has been established.
