Abstract:  THE “IGNOBLE ROCK”: A DESCRIPTION OF THE LOST CHURCH OF SAINT JACOB AT THE COLISEUM AND ITS PICTORIAL DECORATION THROUGH ICONOGRAPHICAL ARCHIVES AND LITERARY SOURCES In the extremely impoverished field of artistic production in Rome between the end of the fourteenth century and the beginning of the fifteenth, finding of a group of unpublished drawings (sketched in 1816), some of which contain scenes from the lost pictorial decoration of the church of Saint Jacob at the Coliseum, constitutes both the starting point for a reconstruction of the role played by the church in the urban context, as well as an occasion to reconsider the rich documentation concerning it.
