Abstract: Of recent nobility, the Pizzardi family played a significant role in local circles and, to some extent, national ones from the Jacobin years until the end of the nineteenth century, when the last heir donated those lands that had been accumulated during the "French years" to charity. it was through the management of new lands and the acquisition of city palaces, as well as a noble title, that the Pizzardi family became one of the richest families in Bologna during the first half of the nineteenth century. Therefore the restoration years saw the men, but also the woman of the family, build a social circle based on evening musical gatherings, fencing academies and salons frequented by the most important names in Bolognese society. politics made its entrance into the Pizzardi family life through the figure of Luigi, who wowe together commercial and political enterprise, becoming a person of note in Bologna during the Risorgimento and then in the Italian State following unification.
