Abstract: THE INDUSTRIAL ARCHIVES OF ROME
THE ULTIMATE ACQUISITIONS IN TERMS OF BUSINESS ARCHIVES
The text covers the extent of what the Lazio Archive Agency has done for the safeguard and awareness of the extensive documentation heritage produced by the region’s economic and industrial activities. The picture that stems from it offers well-grounded evidence for researching within the vast field of the economic archives. Hence, it may be of interest in delineating an insight on the sources stored in Lazio’s archives which do not belong to state authorities.
The industrial development of Rome and the Lazio region is largely manifest in wide-spread small family-led business, that, in most cases, have not kept a record of their activities. There are, however, some important exceptions as in the case of Peroni Beer and Ericsson, contributing specific reference. Herein, one shall find data concerning other archive heritages, which represent important sources of research, such as Istituto Mobiliare Italiano S.p.A. (whose handbook has just been publishes), ATAC (Agency for Municipal Autonomous Transportation), ACEA (Municipal Agency for Electricity and Water), AMA (Municipal Agency for the Environment), Istituto Poligrafico dello Stato, Società per le Condotte d’Acqua. Particular attention is given to the description of the archive of the Società Generale Immobiliare (Real-Estate General Company), one of the largest construction business both in Italy and in the world, donated to the State after filing for bankruptcy.
