Abstract: INDUSTRIAL ROME. THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE PRODUCTIVE PLANTS
BETWEEN THE POST-WAR PERIOD AND THE 1950’S
In sketching the issue of the industrialization of post-war Rome up to and including the 1950’s, including all of it social and political implications, this essay recounts the finding of the capital’s industrial installations and its modifications. What comes out is the image of a city whose situation of lightly industrialized downtown business countered by small-sized handicraft trades remained unchanged for the lapse of time discussed. What changed in the course of a decade, instead, was the industrial concentration as an industrial zone. Therefore, even though the legislation on the city’s industrial zone, which the Christian Democratic party-led local administrations hampered, was not able to stimulate Rome’s construction of a strong industrial framework, it nevertheless remains an effective means for finding the productive activities of a specific field of the urban territory.
