Abstract:  PREPARING THE JUBILEE: THE ROLE OF THE VICARSHIP IN THE HOLY YEAR 1725 A year before the jubilee of 1725, a congregation of cardinals headed by the Vicar of Rome prepared a document for all the dioceses of the Catholic Church. It contained a series of a general rules for the Roman pilgrimage. The Vicarship’s Tribunal arranged the structures which would host the pilgrims, decorated religious sited and began to re-organize day-to-day religious activities and discipline everyday life. Its cabinet organized church visits, confraternity services for the sick and disable, the awarding of indulgences, as well as setting a discipline for the clergy and regulating relations with the Jews. During the Holy Year, it repressed “moral” problems and attempted to take care of many poor country workers. It kept a tight rein on inns. From the religious point of view, it prepared and published the indulgences awarded by the pontiff and undersigned by the Cardinal Vicar. It published edicts and the announcements of jubilee ceremonies.
