Abstract: THE HOLY YEAR AS A POLITICAL RESOURCE. THE JUBILEE OF 1675 BETWEEN ANTI-PROTESTANT CONTROVERSIAL AND PAPACY APOLOGY Such a ritualized event like Jubilee, wich seems always remaining the same, takes actually his particular meaning, and is utilized in different and specific ways, depending on the specific historical and political situations. The 1675 Holy Year is examined here through the cerimonies, the charitable institutions for pilgrims, the treatises, and the scenographies. In this way it reveals a political and religious meaning whose functions are the struggle against Protestants and the Catholic restauration. The holy Year mostly exalts the power and the role of Papacy just in the period of his growing weakness in the international policy.
