Abstract: “THE MODERN HOUSE”. THE IRBS’S HOUSING OFFERS
Amongst the numerous “initiatives” that the Bank of Italy takes on in the social and constructing renovation of Rome, there is also the intent to realize a residential construction based upon innovative principles. That is, an ambitious project enacted through the Roman Institute of Real Estate managed by Eduardo Talamo, who embodies the reforming figure of the social engineer. Looking for a viable solution to the issue concerning housing, evermore holding an important social function as well as being a factor of civic education, the Institute offers different ways of conceiving housing facilities enriched by collective services and available according to the needs of all social classes and typology requirements. One of the many proposals deals with “the modern house”, realized in concomitance with the 1911 exhibition., that accounts for the prototype living arrangement destined to host the low and medium middle class that sum up contemporary social-hygienic ideals.
