Abstract: THE AGREEMENT FOR STATE PARTECIPATION FOR CONSTRUCTION WORK IN ROMA NAZIONAL POLITICS AND LOCAL ADMINISTRATION (1878-1880) This research, carried out by using daily newspapers and archival sources, reconstructs the relations that existed between the political forces and the municipal interests, that in 1880 brought to an agreement between the Italian government and the town hall of Rome for state participation in bids for construction work in the capital city. The agreement was approved by Parliament in May 1881. The government’s line of action and the Capitoline’s projects for intervention in the economic-social sphere of Rome during the governments of Depretis and Cairoli, the division of the Liberal party in the Campidoglio (also in reaction to the internal antagonism of the ministers) and the dynamic between the local representatives and the national government that brought them to this agreement, all emerge from this study.
