Abstract: The documents of the Convent of Santa Maria Maddalena delle Convertite al Corso, preserved in the Historical Archives of the Vicariate in Rome, have remained unexplored until now. Having been finally placed at historians’ disposal, they are an invaluable source for learning the history of one of the most important convents of the Modem Age in Rome and will provide a better understanding of the functions and relationships of the convent with the institutions. The convent, depending on the dowry institute, was a centre for women’s recruitment to religious life. It was not only a place of silence and prayer but also a crucial point in the life of the city because of its activity of social rehabilitation and conversion of courtesans and prostitutes. This work is the result of the rearrangement and inventory of the convent archives. The documents have been arranged in 463 units and gathered into 21 sets. They cover a period of four centuries (from the beginning of the sixteenth century to the second half of the nineteenth). It is now possible to consult them.
