Abstract: THE ASSETS’ STRATEGIES OF THE BONCOMPAGNI LUDOVISI FAMILY IN ROME IN THE LATE 1800’S This essay intends to present the assets’ strategies of the Boncompagni Ludovisi family of Rome during a phase of economic and social changes that involved the capital after its annexation to the Kingdom of Italy. Thanks to the analysis of the sources found mostly in the Secret Archives of the Vatican as well as the Historical Archives of the Bank of Italy it was possible to reconstruct the investments made by the Boncompagni in property and financial markets in order to enact a further diversification of their own activities. This meant that they were in search of new methods to produce income, which were to be no longer solely related with landed property but rather including even financial speculation. The crisis at the turn of the century, and the fall of the financial activities connected with the building industry speculations of those years, determined the crash of the investments made by the Boncompagni and a great decline of the family estate.
