Abstract: The paper examines the situation of female monasteries in Venice during the early modern age, with particular reference to the Monastery of Santa Maria Maddalena, known as the “Convertite”, founded in the mid-16th century and located on the island of Giudecca in Venice . In this monastery, intended to accommodate former redeemed prostitutes, various work activities, weaving and printing works were carried out for a few years. The typographical activity reflected a social redemption of the converted nuns. Through the pastoral visit of Patriarch Priuli, of 1591, we will know some spaces of the monastery.
